Role of SOCS2 in the growth retardation of chronic inflammatory disease

Lead Research Organisation: University of Edinburgh
Department Name: UNLISTED

This project will examine the cellular and molecular mechanisms through which SOCS2 (suppressor of cytokine signalling 2) mediates bone growth and development. SOCS2 has primarily been associated with the negative regulation of growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-I) signalling, as seen by the high growth phenotype of mice lacking SOCS2. Studies investigating the regulatory mechanisms through which SOCS2 controls chondrocyte (cartilage cell) growth through both GH and IGF-I receptor signaling will form the basis of this project.
